Mr. al-Hakim’s message was addressed to Iranian people, families of victims, and the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and said the news of the Plasco collapse had been closely watched by the party leaders.
A fire consumed 9th floor of the 17-storey Plasco building in central part of Tehran which is a busy trade center. The building itself, built in 1962 was the center of textile wholesalers and housed hundreds of the businesses. Despite the fact that firefighters from 10 stations of Tehran had responded to the event, the building collapsed around 11:30 AM Thursday when a number of firefighters were striving to extinguish fire in higher stories of the building.
