Speaking at a press conference on Monday on the eve of the National Navy Day due on November 28, Sayyari referred to the heroism of the Navy during the Sacred War, especially while conducting Operation Morvarid, and said Iranian Navy carried out 150 escort operations and protected commercial ships from Bandar Imam Khomeini to Kharg Island to survive the economy during the Imposed War.
"If the operations had not been conducted and the flow of exports and imports were cut, no one would had helped our country," Sayyari underlined.
Pointing to the Navy's latest achievements and strategic initiatives, Sayyari said "for the first time the 44th flotilla of the Iranian Navy, consisting of the Alvand destroyer and the Bushehr logistic vessel, berthed at the African port into the Atlantic Ocean and deployed in the Port of Durban in South Africa."
"This is a promise we made and in the future will take action for crossing the Atlantic Ocean," he added.
Stating that Iranian destroyers are equipped with the surface-to-surface missiles with the highest range, Sayyari said "this year we promised to hold 20 to 25 navy drills among which 15 exercises have been carried out and the specialized drills of undergrounds will run in the south of the country over the next two or three days."
"Velayat drill will also be held in the north of Indian Ocean in February this year," he added.
Navy commander noted "next week, on November 29, the integrated Samen tracking system will be unveiled with the ability to detect, identify, and track surface and air targets."
"LPI marine radar capable of electronic warfare is another navy achievement to be unveiled soon," he added.
Meantime, Sayyari ensured the release of kidnapped fishermen in Somalia, adding "the Navy and the Islamic Republic government are pursuing the case."
