“A volume of our heavy water surplus has been already transferred, and given the progress in negotiations, another part of the resource will be shipped to Oman for selling to buyer countries,” Behrouz Kamalvandi told ISNA on Sunday.
He went on to stress that the transfer of Iran’s heavy water to Oman has commercial purposes, adding “the resource will be transferred to Oman proportional to the negotiations currently underway with the foreign side on the purchase of heavy water surplus.”
Iran has so far sold 32 metric tons of heavy water to the United States, and another 38 metric tons to Russia.
Under the JCPOA, Iran can sell its heavy water surplus to other countries.
On Friday, Kamalvandi said “as long as the JCPOA is in effect, we will continue to transfer our excess of heavy water to international markets.”
