Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission (NSFPC) Alaeddin Boroujerdi made the remark on Wednesday, adding “under the nuclear deal, Iran is allowed to store a limited amount of heavy water, therefore we need to sell the excess to international markets.”
“Although it may appear that there are some restrictions placed on Iran for storing heavy water, I personally believe that the presence of Iran in global markets for exporting nuclear products is a good testament to the nuclear capability of the Islamic Republic,” he said.
Boroujerdi went on to add, “the Iranian product is completely consistent with the highest international standards; in fact, Iran’s heavy water has applications both in the US as well as developing countries.”
Spokesman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi told al-Alam news channel on Monday that the country has sold 70 tons of heavy water in 7 months, adding that Iran has the capacity to export 20 tons of heavy water to the global markets annually. He also maintained that there are a number of serious clients for Iran’s heavy water from European countries.
