“About redesigning of Arak heavy water reactor, which is now called Khandab heavy water reactor, many things have been done,” said Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Behrouz Kamalvandi on Thursday in an interview with the news agency of Iran’s Parliament.
“The Americans are in a committee responsible for reviewing the designs and plans, but the main job is up to the Chinese,” said the official affirming that the Americans have done their jobs related to the heavy water reactor.
Mr. Kamalvandi recounted that the project is followed according to its timeline and there has been no lagging so far. He also added that the next phase will be about engineering, installation and tapping.
“Fortunately our designing took about 14 months and then the Chinese confirmed the plots which asserted that an impeccable job had been done by the Iranian staff involved and now we are entering the second phase of redesigning to have a more comprehensive design,” articulated the spokesman of the Iranian organization.
About tapping the reactor, Mr. Kamalvandi said that the early speculations were about 5 years and so far a year and some of this time has passed. The official reassured that the reactor will be tapped at the time expected with no delay.
About the cooperation between Iran and Russia on building new nuclear power plant, Mr. spokesman was optimistic and said that recently a trip to Russia showed them how quick are Russians in building nuclear power plants and recounted that 7 years later the first one of plants made by Russians will be tapped.
