Rom’s MAXXI to display TMCA collection

TEHRAN, Oct. 26 (MNA) – Italian National Centre for the Exhibition of Contemporary Art and Architecture (MAXXI) will host and display valuable art collections of Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art.

A Memorandum of Understanding between Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and Iran’s President Rouhani, signed earlier, will allow for the transfer of the Museum’s collection to Italy’s most prestigious and national museum.

The MoU, consisting of 5 agreements in culture and art cooperation and aptly entitled Road Map allows transfer to and display in Rom’s MAXXI of 30 art works of TMCA collections along with the same number of western art works in January 2017.

The official website of MAXXI describes the design of the museum; “The project for the building devoted to the national center for the contemporary art and architecture was selected following a two-part international competition launched by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage in 1998."

“The winning design was that of the Anglo-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, chosen from among 273 candidates from all over the world. Zaha Hadid’s proposal convinced the jury thanks to its capacity to integrate with the urban fabric and for its innovative architecture successfully interpreting the potential of the new institution and equipping it with an extraordinary sequence of public spaces.”
