Centerpiece Lineup announced for Buffalo filmfest.

TEHRAN, Sep. 03 (MNA) – The 2016 Buffalo International Film Festival (BIFF) in Western New York has announced its Centerpiece Lineup for this year's four-day festival to be held on Oct. 7-10.

This year, the festival will be held exclusively in Buffalo; utilizing The North Park Theater, Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, and Squeaky Wheel Film and Media Art Center.

BIFF will present the WNY Premiere of Tyler Hubby’s highly anticipated ‘Tony Conrad: Completely in the Present’ as its opening night feature (7:30PM, Friday October 7, The North Park Theatre). The documentary is the product of a 20+ year collaboration between Hubby and Conrad - who was a filmmaker, musician, artist, activist and long-time University at Buffalo professor of Media Studies who passed away in April of this year at age 76.

Other centerpiece features include:

  • The Meredith Vieria-produced documentary 'Tower' (winner – Best Documentary and Audience Award prizes at this year’s SXSW)
  • 'Women Who Kill' (winner of Best US Screenplay award at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival)
  • Made-in-WNY films 'Trew Calling'
  • World premiere of 'Alcholist'

“The BIFF X lineup represents our commitment to diversity, great storytelling and the City of Buffalo as we present top picks from a vast swath of features and shorts submitted from 28 countries,” said BIFF executive director Raymond Guarnieri.

“Our entire lineup includes festival favorites, indie luminaries, WNY natives and other discoveries we can’t wait to share with our audiences,” said BIFF programming director John J. Fink.

BIFF will announce its full slate of films which will include over 35 features and 60 shorts on September 5th.

Iranian feature film ‘Oblivion Season’ directed by Abbas Rafei managed to win the Best Feature Narrative Award in the previous edition of BIFF.

Buffalo International Film Festival, founded in 2006, champions regional, national, and international films that push the limits of independent cinema, presenting quality films from around the world to Western New York residents and visitors. BIFF is committed to amplifying diverse voices and exhibiting cutting-edge programming in narrative, documentary and experimental film.  A proud supporter of local filmmaking, BIFF also offers year-round workshops, seminars, industry panel discussions, fiscal sponsorship and professional development opportunities.
