FM calls for respect to Syria’s sovereignty

TEHRAN, Aug. 26 (MNA) – Iran's FM Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said on Thursday that Iran expects anti-terrorists moves to be coordinated.

“We have always maintained that war on terrorism is an international responsibility that all countries of the region should join to tackle the sinister phenomenon in a joint cooperation,” said Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi on Thursday in the first official reaction of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the military plunge of Turkey in the Syrian city of Jarabulus.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always announced that fighting with terrorists within the borders of Syria should be coordinated with the central government of the country,” underlined the Iranian diplomat adding that, “it should be done with respect to the sovereignty and territory of Syrian government, as part of the principles of the International Law.”

According to Turkish media, Turkish tanks have entered the land of Syria since Wednesday morning in a so-called bid to free the border city of Jarabulus from the ISIL.

Lying on the western bank of the river Euphrates, the Kurdish city of Jarabulus is of high geopolitical importance as it is located just south of Turkey-Syria border and very close to Lake Assad which is in the south of the city.
