Iran beats Sweden in Deaf World Cup

TEHRAN, Jun. 28 (MNA) – The national deaf Iranian men's soccer team gained a victory over Swedish rivals at the 3rd edition of World Deaf Football Championship underway in Italy.

The Iranian hearing-impaired sportsmen prevailed over Sweden’s team 2-0 with Ali Akbar Ahmadvand and Ali Zeinalvand finding the net.

National team of Iran is scheduled to meet Greece on Wednesday June 29 in an attempt to finish in the 13th place at the tournament.

Iran had previously given away three points to Egypt as they failed to show up against their rival due to visa issuance.

They also drew 2-2 against Ukraine and conceded a 1-3 defeat against England.

Played in the southern town of Eboli of Italy, the 3rd edition of the World Deaf Football Championships opened on June 19 and will conclude on July 2.

The tournament has brought together teams from sixteen countries as Italy, Iraq, Germany and Belgium were drawn in Group A. Group B consists of Russia, Japan, Greece and the United States. Ukraine, Iran, Great Britain and Egypt were drawn in Group C. Group D rounds out the men’s side with Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Sweden and Argentina.
