Iranian writer nominated for 2006 Hans Christian Andersen Award

TEHRAN, June 17 (MNA) -- The Children’s Book Council of Iran nominated Mohammad-Hadi Mohammadi for the 2006 Hans Christian Andersen Award this week.

The council also submitted “A Glass for Dragon”, “Arezu’s Cows”, “The Crow’s Seven Dreams”, “The Little Girl and the Silk Gazelle” and his eight other books to the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY).

 

IBBY biennially presents the Hans Christian Andersen Awards to a living author and illustrator whose complete works have made a lasting contribution to children's literature.

 

Iranian painter and graphic designer Farshid Mesqali won the award in 1974 and Hushang Moradi Kermani and Mohammadreza Yusefi were nominated from Iran for the award in 1992 and 2000 respectively. Moradi Kermani was highly praised by the jury.

 

Iranian children’s book reviewer and translator Parnaz Nayeri will be one of the ten members of the jury for the 2006 Hans Christian Andersen Award.

 

Founded in Zurich in 1953, IBBY is a non-profit organization which represents an international network of people from all over the world who are committed to bringing books and children together.
