Hot Docs Intl. Documentary Festival to host Iran's 'Overruled'

TEHRAN, Apr. 20 (MNA) – Iranian documentary film ‘Overruled’ will go on screen at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival.

Directed by Farnaz and Mohammad Reza Jourabchian, Overruled will be showcased at one of the biggest festivals in North America.

The film is selected to be screened in two competition sections of Semi-Long Documentary section, as well as World Showcase. Overruled will be presented at the festival for three times.

Produced in over 3 years, Overruled depicts the lives of five Afghan immigrants offering a different view of them, unlike common images of Afghan refugees; Afghans who collected the ball from the tennis courts in Tehran, and learn the sport from an early age. They register for many competitions in private clubs open to all and beat some Iranians.

Mehrdad Oskouei's Starless Dreams, Sonita directed by Rokhsareh Ghaemmaghami and Hamid Jafari's The Rock are other three Iranian films present at the American event.

Hot Docs is North America's largest documentary festival and market and next to IDFA in Amsterdam of the world. It has earned an international reputation for programming excellence. Hot Docs also mounts a full roster of industry programmes, and is home to the internationally renowned Toronto Documentary Forum.
