Female judokas to vie in Asian Championships

TEHRAN, Mar. 30 (MNA) – Iran’s women judo team that had last participated in Asian Judo Championships in 2012, will compete in this year’s edition of the sport event in Uzbekistan.

The Iranian team, coached by Mahboubeh Khorshidi, comprises Tahereh Azarpeivand in -48kg, Elham Bahrami in -52kg, Donya Aghaei in 63kg and Zahra Bagheri in 78kg.

Among the four judoka, Donya Aghaei has to her name a bronze medal at the Asian youth competitions and a gold medal at Asian Kurash, while Zahra Bagheri has won a bronze medal at the Asian youth games.

The Asian Judo Championships – 2016 (Individual & Team) will be held from 14th to 17th April 2016 at Sports Complex, Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Javad Mahjoob won the silver medal in the minus 100kg category at the Tbilisi Judo Grand Prix 2016 in the Georgian capital on Sunday, after defeating rivals from Tajikistan, Lithuania, Uzbekistan and Italy. The Iranian judoka has secured his spot at the Rio 2016 Olympics by winning the silver medal against Sweden’s Martin Pachek.
