Speaking at the meeting with the Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah on Wednesday morning, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed joint economic and investment opportunities in various sectors with Brunei calling for expansion of bilateral ties in the post-sanction era.
Zarif also pointed to the existing obstacles and crises in the Islamic world as well as the threats of terrorism and extremism emphasizing the need for Islamic unity as a necessity for Islamic states.
For his part, Sultan Bolkiah, stressed the need for coalition of Islamic states in confronting existing problems calling for boosting of cooperation between Brunei and Iran after the lifting of sanctions in various fields including science, technology as well as petrochemical industry.
A memorandum of understanding is scheduled to be signed between Iran and Brunei as high-ranking Brunei officials have expressed their readiness for mutual cooperation with the Islamic Republic.
Starting his Asian tour on Saturday evening with Indonesia and following it up to Singapore on Monday, Foreign Minister Zarif departed for Brunei on Wednesday and will continue to visit Thailand, New Zealand and Australia as the last legs of his tour.
