Sacred Defense Martyrs Memorial to Be Built in Tehran

TEHRAN, June 14 ( Mehr News Agency) -- A historical memorial in honor of the martyrs of the sacred defense years 1980-1988 is to be constructed in the capital city of Tehran under the title of "Unknown Soldiers."

A brainchild of the Beautification Organization of Tehran Municipality, the historical cenotaph is to honor the grand bravery of all martyrs of the eight-year sacred defense during the imposed war.

While the first phase of the plan will comprise finding an appropriate location, a competition for the architectural design of the structure will also be held among all artists, experts, architects, and engineers.

After locating the most promising location and design, the construction of the project will be set in motion – to be dedicated in 2006.

The organization also plans to construct a similar historical memorial in honor of the martyrs of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
