The 39th Portland International Film Festival is an annual showcase of the very best in the contemporary world cinema, screening more than 125 films from over 30 countries.
Taking place in mid-February, this two-week film festival seeks to explore the diversity of not only the art of films, but of the world around us.
The American festival has showcased on Friday Iranian short film Sormeh, which recounts the story of a married woman ready to leave the flat for a friend’s marriage ceremony in the midst of 1979 uprisings, but gets stuck on her way out of the building with a runaway rebel.
Sormeh was previously screened at Germany’s Exground Film Festival as well as the 58th San Francisco International Film Festival. It managed to win the 3rd prize at the 16th International Izmir Short Film Festival, Turkey. It also won the Best Film Award in the main section of Dieciminuti Film Festival, Italy.
