Iran’s Farzin wins gold at Fazza IPC Powerlifting World Cup

DUBAI, Feb. 18 (MNA) – Iranian Paralympic weightlifter Majid Farzin has scooped up a gold medal at the seventh edition of Fazza International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Powerlifting World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

On Wednesday, the men’s minus 80-kilogram weight category saw a battle between Colombia’s Jainer Rafael Cantillo Guette, Turkey’s Izzetin Kanat and Iran’s Majid Farzin at Dubai Club For The Disabled. 

While Farzin managed to elevate 236.5kg overhead in his third attempt, the Colombian and Turkish contestants achieved 200 kilograms and 193 kilograms, respectively.

Iran’s Hamzeh Mohammadi in the minus 59-kilogram weight category had finished with bronze with 193 kilograms on Tuesday.

On Thursday, Seyyed Hamed Solhipour in the 88-kilogram weight category and Saman Razi in the 97-kilogram weight category will go against their competitors.

The seventh edition of Fazza IPC Powerlifting World Cup began in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, on February 15 and will finish on February 19, 2016.

More than 200 athletes from 40 countries, including Algeria, Azerbaijan, Britain, Egypt, Iran, Ivory Coast, Japan, Morocco, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates, have participated in the tournament. Iran is participating in the event with a seven-strong delegation.
