Iran after establishing shipping offices in Europe

TEHRAN, Jan. 05 (MNA) – IRISL managing director has announced Iran’s plan to open shipping bureaus in European countries.

Following a meeting with representatives of Danish shipping lines, Managing-Director of Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) Mohammad Saeedi said “once the cruel international sanctions were imposed against Iran, commuting of Iranian ships to Europe and that of international companies to Iranian ports came to a halt.”

“In order to facilitate the commute to European countries, IRISL seeks to open agencies in European countries in order to transfer Iranian oil and non-oil export products to European ports,” he noted.

Saeedi further stressed that Iranian-flagged ships will be able to travel to the world’s major ports enjoying insurance coverage by European countries.

The official further touched upon the renovation of Iran’s shipping fleet adding “over the past seven years, Iran has failed to renovate its fleet due to heavy sanctions imposed on the country but the issue has been put high on agenda of IRISL for the post- sanction era.”

IRISL managing director also referred to the commute of Maersk Line Company to Iranian ports; “the representative of Maersk Line was present in the visiting Danish delegation and it was decided that the company’s ships will travel to Iran’s ports.”

“Iran has announced readiness to cooperate with Maersk Line as one of the biggest shipping companies around the world,” he stressed.

Saeedi further highlighted the offshore activities of Maersk Line, “the Danish company seeks to increase cooperation with IRISL in the offshore sector,” he concluded.
