On the sidelines of a trip to Najaf and Karbala visiting services provided by Tehran municipality to Arbaeen pilgrims, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf met with Shia cleric Ayatollah Sistani and discussed issues on the Islamic world in addition to this year’s Arbaeen procession.
The Shia cleric in Iraq appreciated the service provided by the Municipality of Tehran in supporting Arbaeen ceremony adding “the same effort need to be carried out in Najaf and Karbala as well.”
“The religious aspects of the Iranian people and the Islamic Republic of Iran have maintained security in Iran as well as stability in other countries,” noted the cleric asserting “however, arrogance pays great attention to West Asia, especially Iraq and Syria, which has turned Iraq into a significant issue both in the Islamic world and at international levels.”
Referring to enemies’ efforts in confronting Shias, Ayatollah Sistani insisted “enemies frequently invent new titles like Taliban in Afghanistan and ISIL in Iraq and the trend continues with the aim of destroying Iraq and Syria while we need to neutralize all conspiracies.”
Ghalibaf, for his part, presented a report to the Iraqi cleric on activities of Tehran municipality in various areas including urban, cultural, transport as well as health and treatment.
