Belgium warns of imminent terror threat in Brussels

BRUSSELS, Nov. 21 (MNA) – Belgium has raised its terror alert to the highest level for Brussels, declaring the state of emergency and closing the subway and streetcar transportation services at least until Sunday afternoon.

"Following our latest evaluation, the center has raised its terror alert to level 4, signifying a very serious threat, for the Brussels region," said a statement from the Ministry of Interior, which comes a week after the Paris attacks left 130 dead. "The analysis shows a serious and imminent threat requiring specific security measures as well as detailed recommendations to the population, “the statement of the Belgian Interior Ministry said.

Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel said that there were evidence showing the preparation of attacks similar to those that took place in Paris last November 13. The information states that armed men could hit shopping malls, transportation means and public activities, said the chief of state. Also it canceled the concert by Johnny Hopllyday and several football games according to the newspaper Le Soir.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders, also confirmed that there were enough elements to consider the threat imminent. Security measures were taken in Vilvorde, a municipality in Flnaders were several Islamic youth were arrested because of links to the attack in Paris.
