Majidi’s camera focusing on caretakers of shrine of Imam Reza (AS)

TEHRAN, Apr. 18 (MNA) -- Iranian director Majid Majidi is currently making a documentary on the caretakers of the shrine of Imam Reza (AS).

“I was recently in Mashhad to film a documentary on the caretakers working at the shrine of Imam Reza (AS),” he told the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA).

“Various people, ranging from university professors to ordinary people, are seen among the caretakers, and this is very interesting for me,” Majidi added.

He plans to make two more journeys to Mashhad to complete the film.

Majidi had said earlier that he was writing a screenplay for his new film, which will begin shooting in late summer. According to him, the movie, in which a teenager is to play the leading role, will focus on social issues.

“The film will be quite different from my previous films. I can not say that I have returned to the children’s world,” he said.

Majidi received the Best Director Award of the 23rd Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran last February for his latest film “The Weeping Willow”. The film was also selected as the Audience Favorite at the festival, which is Iran’s most prestigious cinematic event.

The Russian Filmmakers Union and the Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography of the Ministry of Culture and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation held a retrospective of Majidi’s works in Moscow in March.
