Iran hits its best record in World Transplant Games

MAR DEL PLATA, Aug. 31 (MNA) – Iran transplant sport teams struck the best results in the history of their participation in World Transplant Games by claiming 77 medals in the 2015 edition of the games.

According to Iran’s Transplant & Specific Patients Sport Federation, Iran transplant sport teams managed to grab 27 gold, 22 silver and 28 bronze medals in the 10th World Transplant Games in Argentina.

Iran with a total of 77 medals claimed the 6th ranking in the international event. Britain, Argentina, South Africa, Hungary and the United States each were placed in the first to fifth ranking respectively.

44 countries participated in the 20th World Transplant Games that were held in Mar del Plata, Argentina from 23 to 30 August 2015. The teams competed in various games including athletics, swimming, badminton, tennis, volleyball and cycling. 

The previous best record for Iran was in the 2011 Games held in Sweden where the country’s athletes grabbed 23 gold medals.

In the previous edition of the games in South Africa, the Iranian sport teams claimed 14 gold, 25 silver and 22 bronze medals, ranking 11th.  

The 20th World Transplant Games were hosted by Argentina - the first time the Games have been held in South America.
