Iran's Javad Hosseinabadi was the main offensive weapon with 11 points while UAE's Mohamed Alsuwaidi matched 14 points, which represented an incredible 27 per cent of his team’s total tally of 52.
From the beginning it was clear that the well-organized Iran team had the superiority as they went easily to win the first set 25-16 through the efficient attacks led by Saeed Tavana and Pourya Damnabi.
In the second set, Iran setter came in to conduct another wide lead 25-15 to advance 2-0. Iran coach Peyman Akbari started to use some substitutes and this allowed UAE to enter the game relatively before they could maintain their lead till they won the third set 25-20 and the match in straight sets.
Iran will have its second match today against South Korea.
Pool A in these competitions consists of Iran, Emirates, Italy, Cuba and South Korea while the teams in Pool B include Brazil, Russia, Turkey, Argentina, Tunisia and Mexico.
