South Pars phases 20-21 progress 77% offshore

TEHRAN, Jun. 21 (MNA) – The project manager of phases 20 and 21 of the giant offshore South Pars gas field recounted the latest advances of the plans.

Building the offshore and shore pipelines of the phases 20 and 21 along with the manufacturing of the sea platforms of the project in Khorramshahr yard, the underway phases of 20 and 21 of the giant offshore South Pars gas field has been pushed 77% ahead, IRNA reported.

Also the pipe laying in shore-pull operations of the phase 20 were launched on June 5, Afshari the project manager told the reporters adding that following the completion of the shore-pull operations of the phase 20, the operations for phase 21 were kicked off two days later on June 7.

According to officials the phase 21 of the project demands 103 kilometers of pipeline which would take 2 to 2.5 months to be laid.

Upon the completion of pipe laying of the phase 21, the pipe laying of phase 20 which is of 96 kilometers would be started.

South Pars, divided into 29 development phases, contains 40 trillion cubic meters (tcm) of natural gas. It covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers are situated in Qatar’s territorial waters.

The gas field is estimated to contain about eight percent of the world’s reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.

The main phase of South Pars gas field came on-stream in March, increasing Iran’s gas production by 100 mcm/d.
