Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Greek counterpart Nikos Kotzias will meet in Athens on Thursday to discuss various points of mutual interests including expansion of bilateral ties, as well as regional and global issues, announced Greece Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.
Following Greece's general election in January and the winning of the leftist anti-austerity party, Syriza, the Greek government officials have been trying to expand their relations with other countries including Iran, which holds a strategic significance to the European country.
Greece nearly went bankrupt in 2010. It survived, however, on international rescue packages. Athens has received 240 billion euros (USD 330 billion) in international loans in return for the enforcement of austerity measures.
Zarif who went ot Oman on Tuesday, is currently in Kuwait to attend the 42nd foreign ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
