Meeting with Indian Road, Transportation and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari in Tehran, President Rouhani maintained that the resumption of Iran-India cooperation in the southeastern Iranian port city of Chabahar would lead to a new chapter in the relations between the two countries.
Stressing the ancient and historical ties between the two countries, Rouhani assured that the level of mutual cooperation would increase day by day.
Pointing to Iran's special transit position for connecting east to west and north to south, he stressed that the Islamic Republic could play a pivotal role in connecting India to Central Asia, as well as the Caucasus and Eastern Europe via railway.
Highlighting the importance of North-South Transport Corridor and the development of Iranian ports, Rouhani noted that the country welcomes the Indian investors in construction of roads, railways and development of Chabahar port and other southern ports in Iran.
Rouhani also asserted that as effective members of some regional organizations and allies Tehran and New Delhi could deepen cooperation to put an end to wars, terrorism and any kind of extremism.
Gadkari, for his part, presented the written message of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to President Rouhani, and expressed his country’s interest in participating in Iran’s various economic projects including ports, roads and railways.
He also maintained that New Delhi is fully ready to cooperate with Tehran in development of Chabahar port.
