Iran hails appointment of new Yemeni PM

TEHRAN, Oct. 14 (MNA) – FM spokeswoman, Marzieh Afkham commended the appointment of the new Yemeni prime minister.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham on Tuesday hailed the appointment of the new Yemeni prime minister and expressed hopes that it would help restore stability to the country.

Referring to the recent accord signed between the Yemeni President and representatives of the country’s political and social parties, Afkham said the guaranteeing factor in the full implementation of the accord and the continuation of political process in Yemen would be the adherence of all parties to their commitments.

Yemen’s president on Monday appointed a diplomat, Khaled Bahah, as prime minister after securing the backing of Islamists as well as Houthi protesters who control the capital, raising hopes that a political deadlock will ease. Bahah, Yemen’s ambassador to the United Nations, will have 30 days to form a government after his selection by President Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi, state media reported. In a statement, the Houthi protesters who have controlled the capital, Sanaa, for weeks said they welcomed the appointment of Bahah.
