Iran Says Pilgrimage of Its Nationals to Iraq Illegal

TEHRAN, July 28 (Mehr News Agency) – Iran announced Monday that pilgrimage of its nationals to Iraq is illegal, Foreign Ministry announced Monday.

Talking to reporters in a weekly meet the press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamidreza Assefi said that there is no guarantee for the safety of Iranians traveling to Iraq.

 

Touching on Iran’s efforts to ease pilgrimage to holy sites in Iraq, he said, it is on the agenda. Referring to the threats posed to the lives of the Iranians in Iraq, he called on the Iranians to refrain from going to Iraq under the present circumstances.

 

Since there is no guarantee for the lives of the pilgrims in Iraq, any pilgrimage to that country will be illegal, he said.

 

On the trip of a trade delegation to Iraq, he said the Chamber of Commerce will give the necessary information. The trip is within the framework of cooperation between the private sectors of the two countries.
