"Animal Farm" to Go on Stage in Tehran

TEHRAN, July 14 (Mehr News Agency) – The managing director of the Artists Forum plans to stage the "Mask of Animal Farm," in Tehran with an adaptation of George Orwell's Animal Farm.

"The appeal of 'Animal Farm' made me select the work for stage presentation," said Behrouz Gharibpour, but he did not reveal when the play will be on stage.

"I tried to perform the play when I felt prepared for it," said Gharibpour.

"Animal Farm" depicts the story of the uprising of farm animals for freedom and justice. Orwell's "Animal Farm" and "1984" made him known as the foreteller of the Soviet Union’s collapse.

According to Gharibpour, 30 actors wearing masks will appear in the play.

He is editing a documentary on a puppet show titled "With Love to the Last Breath" describing the life story of Reza Khamsei, one of the last performers of Iranian traditional shows.

The thirteen-episode TV series "Papa Rain" is also a mixed animation/film by Gharibpour slated for broadcast by Channel 2 next Friday.

Gharibpour intends to perform the first puppet opera named "Rostam & Sohrab," the two heroes of Ferdowsi's masterpiece, the Shahnameh at the 22nd Fajr International Theater Festival to be held on February 1-11, 2004.
