TEHRAN, July 9 (MNA) –- Following the meeting attended by head of Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization, Hossein Mar’ashi, and the officials in charge of Meymand, the new measures were taken on world registration of Meymand Village of Kerman Province.

Mar’ashi stressed that the regional structures be refurbished, and the ground for economical development be prepared.

He further noted that developing rural tourism in the region would improve living conditions, help attract more tourists, and preserve the ancient structure of the area as well.

Meymand is an ancient region in Babak city in Kerman Province.

Renovating its rural architecture, handicrafts, and hand woven works, restoring the old image of the village, establishing several inns and a museum are among the activities to be done in the region.

According to local people, there is an inscription near the village, which bears the date 3000-12000, and Meymand is believed to date back to 3000-12000 years.

People are still living in the myriad crypts of the village. Some people believe the place was used for burying dead bodies. The crypts are placed inside the mountain. Meymand is one of the four registered villages by UNESCO.
