Mohamed Kamel Amr emphasized that Egypt would not allow any country to play with the security of Persian Gulf. “For Egypt, Persian Gulf security is equal to security of Egypt, and Cairo will not work with any side that jeopardizes the security of Persian Gulf,” he added.
In response to question about Iran and its regional role and Ahmadinejad visit to Egypt and his assessment about the relations with Iran, Amr said “Iran is a regional power that cannot be ignored, but there are frameworks for relations and Egypt has its own framework which is committed to, such as non-interference in the internal affairs of any country.”
“We do not interfere in the internal affairs of any country, like for us, the lack of any religious interference of another country is important, and the most important for us is the case of security of the Persian Gulf,” he asserted.
