Iran ready to protect India against pirate attacks: Navy chief

TEHRAN, Sept. 21 (MNA) – The Iranian Navy is ready to protect India against pirate attacks, the Navy commander announced on Friday.

“We are fully capable of protecting the security of our region and even are ready to provide security for India against pirates’ attacks,” Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari told reporters on the sidelines of a military parade marking the Sacred Defense Week.

He also said the Sahand destroyer, which was launched on Tuesday, is much advanced than the Jamaran.

“The Sahand destroyer is incomparable with the Jamaran, and modern equipment is used in the destroyer (Sahand),” he said. “And this shows Iran’s power in defense and military field.”

On repeated military threats against Iran by Israel, the admiral said, “No country dares to attack Iran.”

The commander also said Iran “has no worry” about the ongoing war games in the region by the U.S. and its allies.
