IRGC busted four teams of terrorists: commander

TEHRAN, June 26 (MNA) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps has busted four teams of terrorists who had plotted to carry out suicide operations in Iran, the commander of the IRGC Ground Forces announced on Tuesday.

In a series operations carried out by IRGC forces in the last days of Iranian calendar year 1390 (ended March 19) and the early days of year 1391, members of three teams of terrorists, who were linked to the terrorist group Jundullah, were either killed or arrested, Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour said.

He also said that the teams, which had planned to carry out terrorist actions during the Noruz (the Iranian New Year) holidays in late March, were busted in border areas in southeast Iran.

The fourth team has recently been busted, he added.

“We had intelligence that counter-revolutionary elements based out of the country had organized a number teams for conducting suicide operations, and the dear intelligence forces of the Ground Forces made great efforts to track them down. Following these measures, they fell into our trap,” he explained.

Brigadier General Mohsen Kazemeini, the commander of the Tehran-based Mohammad Rasulollah Division of the IRGC, announced on May 7 that IRGC forces had managed to foil a number of assassination plots and suicide and bombing attacks that terrorists had planned to carry out in sensitive parts of the capital Tehran during the Noruz holidays. He did not give more details at the time.
