Iranian wrestler Noroozi wins gold at world championships

ISTANBUL, Sept. 14 (MNA) -- Iran’s Omid Noroozi claimed the gold medal at the FILA World Wrestling Championships in Istanbul on Tuesday.

The Iranian defeated Almat Kebispayev from Kazakhstan and seized the gold medal in the 60kg wrestling category.

“I've trained really hard to get gold at the worlds. I dedicate my medal to the people of Iran,” Noroozi said.
 
Russia’s Zaur Kuramagomedov and Bulgaria’s Ivo Angelov shared the bronze medal.
 
Noroozi is the sixth Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler to win a gold medal at the World Championship. Firooz Alizadeh, Hasan Rangraz, Hamid Surian, Amir Ali-Akbari and Saeid Abdevali have also won gold medals at the worlds.
 
Iran’s Bashir Asgari Babanjazadeh also claimed the bronze in Istanbul. The Iranian wrestler beat Nurmakhan Tinaliyev from Kazakhstan in the 120kg category. In the same class, Riza Kayaalp from Turkey won the gold after beating Cuba’s Mijain Lopez.

Over 800 wrestlers are took part in the FILA World Wrestling Championships in Istanbul, with a chance to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.
