Iran U-23 football team advances to quarter-final of Asian Games

GUANGZHOU, Nov. 15 (MNA) -- Iran U-23 football team booked a berth in the quarter-final stage of the 2010 Asian Games after beating Malaysia.

Iran edged past Malaysia 3-1 at the Yuexiushan Stadium in Guangzhou on Monday.

Karim Ansarifard scored Iran’s first goal in the 53rd minute. Jalal Hosseini headed the ball into the goal in the 60th minute and Amir Sharafi scored Iran’s third goal seven minutes later.

Talala scored a consolation goal for Malaysia from the penalty spot with just four minutes to the match.

“We gained a difficult victory against Malaysia because they were playing with seven and eight defenders in the first half.  In the second half, we changed our tactic and scored three times,” Iran coach Amir-Hossein Peyrovani said.

Iran is scheduled to play Oman in the quarter-final round at the Huangpu Stadium on November 19.
