Iran's Anti-Drug Campaign Underfunded: Deputy Police Commander

TEHRAN, June 28 (Mehr News Agency) – Despite spending $7 million annually on the campaign against drugs and $1 billion to secure the country's borders, Iran's campaign against drugs has not yielded the desired results due to the lack of coordination between relevant organizations, said a police commander.

Any campaign against drugs is futile if prevention and treatment programs are not implemented, Deputy Police Commander Brigadier General Ali Abdollahi told the Mehr News Agency.

"The drug issue is a global problem," he added.

Abdollahi also said that solving the problem requires the cooperation of all countries in the world.

"Yet, despite the propaganda of the foreigners, Iran's anti-drug campaign has received less than $20 million in foreign assistance over the past 15 years."
