TEHRTAN, Apr. 18 (MNA) – The coordination council of the reformist camp released a statement on Saturday announcing its support for Mir Hossein Mousavi in the June presidential election.

“We believe that the characteristics, records, capabilities and the ideas of Mir Hossein Mousavi can settle the current deficiencies in the management of the country.”

The statement emphasizes that the process of choosing Mousavi has been “completely democratic” and that the council has considered views of over 22 member parties and groupings.

Rezaii to announce his decision on candidacy soon

Expediency Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaii stated on Saturday that he will announce his final position on candidacy next week.

“I still prefer other colleagues who accept the coalition government to enter the (election) scene,” he told the Mehr News Agency. Rezaii has earlier said if he nominates in the election, he will not withdraw in favor of any candidate.

Principlist MP says it is not late to announce a candidate

Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Alaedin Boroujerdi explained that it is not “late” for principlists to name their candidate.

“The process of arriving at a final candidate is a complex process and … the media are not to be informed of all the details,” he told MNA.

Asked whether the principlists will contest the election with a single candidate, Boroujerdi said, “Although the majority of reformists have supported Mir Hossein Mousavi, we should not expect necessarily the same situation in the principlist camp.”

Reformist says SCP does not advise Karroubi to withdraw

Servants of Construction Party spokesman Hossein Marashi stated that SCP does not urge Mahdi Karroubi to withdraw from the election in favor of Mousavi.

“We do not advise Karroubi to withdraw. But, we expect him… to do whatever he believes is expedient to the nation on the eve of election,” he told reporters.

Asked which of the reformist candidates, Karroubi or Mousavi, has more votes, Marashi said both of them have more votes than President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad!

Reformists want a candidate more qualified than Karroubi

A member of the reformist Islamic Iran Participation Party, Mehrdad Masoudi, pointed out that reformists are seeking a candidate who is “more qualified” than Karroubi.

“We should not ignore Karroubi’s services to the nation. However, the reformist camp is looking for a candidate more qualified than him,” Masoudi told the Fars News Agency.

He also noted that the IIPP backs Mousavi in the upcoming presidential election. Masoudi predicted that reformists will definitely field a single candidate in the election.

Mousavi: Central Bank should be “independent”

Presidential hopeful Mir Hossein Mousavi emphasized that the Central Bank should be “independent”.

“I will move towards making the Central Bank independent because currently all other banks have become the administration’s backyard,” he said in a meeting with farmers and agricultural groupings.

Mousavi also pointed out that his relations with the youth are “good” and that he has always tried to stay close to them.

Principlist MP: Ahmadinejad is the only notable candidate

Mohammad Reza Tajeddini of the Majlis presiding board stated that Ahmadinejad is the only “notable” candidate in the principlist camp in the presidential election.

“The principlist movement is heading towards (forming a) coalition and the party’s candidate will be announced in two weeks,” he added.
