Rafsanjani urges Palestinian unity after Gaza war victory

TEHRAN, Feb. 12 (MNA) – Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said it is necessary that Palestinians maintain their unity after victory over Israel in the Gaza war.

Israeli army launched a massive attack on the Gaza Strip last month to break the backbone of resistance movement. However, it failed to achieve its goal.

“All Palestinian groups must also try to keep their unity after this victory,” Rafsanjani told Palestinian Islamic Jihad chief Ramadan Abdallah in a meeting late Wednesday.

Rafsanjani, the Expediency Council chairman, also said the Iranian nation has now turned into an “example” for other nations because of its resistance against global arrogance over the last three decades.

Israel’s three-week onslaught on Gaza led to the death of at least 1,300 Palestinians, mostly children and women.

He said Israel and its supporters “provoked” Muslims against themselves itself as Israeli army “acted savagely in killing women, children and defenseless people of Palestine.”

Rafsanjani praised the heroic resistance of Gaza people in the war, saying, “The Islamic world felt proud because of your resistance in Palestine and prompted support for Muslims” in the world.

“The victory of resistance in Gaza has promoted the idea among Muslims that the ‘weapon of faith’ can win over an armed to the teeth regime like Israel.”

Rafsanjani said Iran will not waver in its support to Palestinians in “their struggle to gain their rights”.

“The Iranian government and nation consider it their duty to support Palestinians” which their rights have been denied by Israel, he explained.

He added Iran “will spare no effort” to help Palestinian and “God willing our support will be reinforced in the future.”

For his part, the Islamic Jihad leader thanked Iran for its help to Palestinians in hard times and said Palestinians will never forget these supports.

Ramadan Abdallah also said Israel and its supporters are trying hard to prevent Iran’s support to “Muslim nations in their just struggle so that they can easily implement their vicious plots.”

He also said Israel is in “weakest” position since the 22-day war against Gaza.
