“Of course, we will have a flight from Ankara to Tehran on the 24th, but the official inauguration of the line will be on the 25th,” he told the Tehran Times.
“This line will have two flights from Tehran to Ankara on Sundays and Thursdays and two flights on Saturdays and Wednesdays from Ankara to Tehran,” he explained.
The Turkish flag carrier also connects Iran and Turkey through flights from Tehran and Tabriz to Istanbul.
“We had seven flights per week on the Tehran to Istanbul route up to the summer of 2007, which was increased to 10 flights per week in November 2007, and we hope that we will be able to increase this number to 14 flights per week,” he said.
“We also have three flights per week on our Tabriz-Istanbul route, which we also plan to increase to four flights per week,” he added.
Kaptan also stated that the Turkish carrier plans to start Mashhad-Istanbul and Shiraz-Istanbul routes.
“The Mashhad-Istanbul route will be started before the Shiraz route and we plan to place three flights per week on this line.”
The Tehran-Tabriz flights feature business class but the other Iran-Turkey flights will only have economy class, Kaptan explained.
He also expressed hope that Turkish Airlines would be able to play a larger role in connecting the two countries in the future, adding that the airline is making efforts to establish an Iran-Turkey cargo route.
