Chevalier medal winner Nazeri made world bow to Iranian art and music

TEHRAN, Oct. 17 (MNA) -- Shahram Nazeri, the winner of France’s Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur medal, returned to Tehran on Wednesday morning.

He was welcomed at Mehrabad Airport by the director of the Music and Poetry Office of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Mohammad-Hossein Ahmadi, and a group of music fans.

In a speech after his arrival, Nazeri said, “Relationships between countries are created by artists, and the inhabitants of each country become familiar with the world’s cultures through artists’ activities.”

Despite the turbulence in ties between countries nowadays, the relationships between people, cultures, and arts have always been positive, he added.

Nazeri stated that he never could have won the award without the Iranian people’s kindness and support over the past 30 years, especially his fellow Kurds.

Nazeri’s greatest fans are from Iran’s Kurdish regions, particularly his birthplace Kermanshah.

Ahmadi also expressed his appreciation of the auspicious event and said, “Shahram Nazeri made the world bow to Iranian art and music and familiarized the world with a part of Iran’s rich culture.”

He announced that a ceremony in honor of the vocalist will be held in the near future.

The French government presented Nazeri the Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur medal, one of the most coveted trophies in the world of art and culture, during a ceremony in Paris on September 29.

He was given the award in recognition of the meticulous attention he has paid to the musical interpretation and vocalization of the transcendent lyrics of the Iranian poet and mystic Molana Jalal ad-Din Rumi.
