TEHRAN, Apr. 01 (MNA) – The martyrdom of Avanos Simonyan, the Iranian Christian martyr, symbolizes the deep solidarity among people of different faiths in Iran.

Isfahan witnessed a moving and historic funeral this week for Avanos Simonyan, the first and only Christian martyr of the Ramadan War in Iran. His martyrdom symbolizes the deep solidarity among different faiths and the boundless spirit of sacrifice that transcends religion.

The ceremony, held alongside the funerals of 49 other local martyrs, drew citizens from all communities, including a strong presence of Isfahan’s Armenian Christian population. Representatives emphasized that the joint mourning reflects the unity of Iran’s people in defending their homeland, regardless of faith.

Gharart Mansourian, representative of Isfahan and southern Iran’s Armenian community in parliament, highlighted the significance of this interfaith unity. “There is no difference between people of different religions in honoring and standing together for our heroes,” he said.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps marked the 86th phase of the Operation Tue Promise 4 in honor of Simonyan, underlining the ongoing defense of Iran in the spirit of those who sacrificed their lives during the eight-year Iran-Iraq War and the Ramadan War.

Clergyman Vartan Aghababayan praised Simonyan’s bravery, noting that he stayed at his post despite repeated attacks in Baharestan, ultimately giving his life for his country. He added, “Christians and Muslims have always stood side by side in Iran, and our nation’s long-standing culture of resilience will endure.”

Martyr Simonyan Singardi, a Christian citizen of Isfahan, was martyred in a terrorist attack on Thursday, April 26, in the city of Baharestan, as the first and only Christian martyr in the country.
