Iran takes seventh place in IPhO

TEHRAN, July 21 (MNA) -- Iran ranked seventh in the 38th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) held this year in Isfahan and which drew to a close today.

 

The five-member Iranian team picked up two gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze.

 

The team from China was the overall winner of the Olympiad and gained the most medals.

 

In addition, South Korean and Russian teams stood in second and third places respectively.

 

Seventy five teams from across the globe took part in the event which began at Isfahan University of Technology on July 14.

 

The participants made several visits to various historical monuments and industrial areas in the province.

 

They also went on a trip to Abyaneh, a historical and picturesque village near Kashan.

 

The wife of Professor Waldemar Gorzkowski, the late president of the IPhO, accompanied the students on the trip and was presented with the golden key of Abyaneh.

 

Unfortunately, the IPhO’S founder and president, Professor Waldemar Gorzkowski, who was visiting Isfahan with his wife, passed away on Sunday, July 15 in his hotel room due to heart failure.
