Speaking at the 40th meeting of Iran’s Supreme Council for the Environment on Saturday, Pezeshkian said concentrating responsibility in the hands of a limited number of managers and officials often leads institutions to prioritize their own interests over broader national goals.
“When responsibility for protecting the environment is given to the people themselves, they will undoubtedly act far more responsibly,” he said.
The president also stressed the need for large and small industrial and production units to take greater responsibility for environmental protection, saying environmental safeguards related to their activities should be delegated to the companies themselves under precise and up-to-date regulations.
He, however, stressed the need for continuous supervision of the government.
