Iranian FM meets Ugandan president in Kampala

TEHRAN, Oct. 16 (MNA) – Iran's foreign minister met with Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on the sidelines of the Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member states in Kampala.

The meeting took place on Wednesday evening, October 15, during which Minister Araghchi expressed appreciation to the Government of Uganda for hosting the NAM summit and underscored the importance of strengthening solidarity and cooperation among member states in order to uphold the Movement’s fundamental principles, safeguard the rule of law, and support nations’ right to self-determination.

Highlighting Iran’s active approach to expanding cooperation with the African continent, Araghchi reaffirmed Tehran’s readiness to enhance bilateral relations with Uganda in economic, agricultural, and commercial fields.

The Iranian foreign minister also expressed gratitude for Uganda’s principled stance in condemning the Israeli regime’s military aggression against Iran.

President Museveni, for his part, welcomed the long-standing relations between the two countries based on mutual respect and shared interests, and emphasized Kampala’s determination to deepen ties with Tehran.

According to diplomatic sources, both sides agreed to convene a meeting of the Iran–Uganda Joint Economic Commission in the near future to accelerate the implementation of joint projects and further energize bilateral relations.
