Al Jazeera reported on Saturday that the brother and sister-in-law of the director of al-Shifa Hospital were killed in an Israeli attack targeting their home earlier in the day.
“The latest attack was the deliberate targeting this morning of the family of Dr Mohammed Abu Salmiya, director of the Al-Shifa Hospital complex in Gaza City,” a statement on Telegram said, adding that five members of the doctor’s family, including his brother and several children, were killed in the attack.
Hamas called the attack “a bloody terrorist message directed at doctors to force them to leave the city”.
“This is part of a policy of genocide, one of the cornerstones of which is the destruction of the medical sector,” it also said, adding that more than 1,700 medical personnel have been killed in Gaza by Israel, while about 400 are kept imprisoned.
