They met at the venue of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) and discussed ways to boost cultural cooperation.
Saffar Harandi said that promoting Persian culture requires constant cooperation between the two countries and emphasized that Iran and Tajikistan have a common language and shared interests.
Harandi noted that Iranian people understand the Persian dialect of Tajikistani people and that this forges a link between them.
“Historically the works of both our countries’ cultural figures are mingled with Islamic ideology and this is something of which our peoples are proud,” He added.
Mirzoshohrukh Asrorov expressed his delight over his visit and announced that he would be very pleased to increase cultural ties and activities with Iran.
ICRO director Hojjatolesalm Mahmud Mohammadi Araqi added that cultural exchange will continue after the visit of Tajikistan’s culture minister.
He cited the programs commemorating Rumi in 2007 and Rudaki in 2008 as common activities that had been undertaken by the two countries.
Several projects that have been planned to aid the development of cultural links include the holding of ‘Iran’s Cultural Week’ and establishing an arts cultural center in Tajikistan, and the establishment of a common cultural center for Iran, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan.
The Culture Minister Mirzoshohrukh Asrorov is due to visit the National Library of Iran and Ayatollah Mar’ashi’s Library in Qom.
