Niki Karimi named to jury of Berlinale

TEHRAN, Jan. 12 (MNA) -- Iranian actress and director Niki Karimi has been selected as one of the jury members for the debut features section of the 57th Berlin International Film Festival, which will be held from February 8 to 18.

 

The winner of this section will receive the Best First Feature Award, which is annually presented by the Gesellschaft zur Wahrnehmung von Film-und Fernsehrechten (GWFF), a society for safeguarding film and television rights.

 

The prize is shared between the producer and the director of the awarded film.

 

The winner will be announced during the official awards ceremony in the Berlinale Palast.

 

Karimi, 35, is currently starring in “The Second Wife”, the latest work of Iranian director Sirus Alvand.

 

In December 2006, she received the ILEX Award of the 13th Boston Festival of Films and Music from Iran for directing “A Few Days Later” (2006) and “One Night” (2005).

 

She was also one of the jury members for the Izmir International Short Film Festival last November.

 

In addition, she presided over the jury of the 3rd Reykjavik International Film Festival (RIFF) in fall 2006.
