At least 900 arrested at antiwar protests on US campuses

TEHRAN, Apr. 29 (MNA) – At least 900 people have been arrested on US campuses since April 18 when New York police removed a pro-Palestinian encampment at Columbia University and arrested more than 100 demonstrators.

Students at dozens of universities have since set up encampments calling for an end to Israel’s war on Gaza and for their universities to cut ties with companies selling weapons to Israel.

More than 290 people were arrested on Saturday from protests at Northeastern University in Boston, Arizona State University, Indiana University at Bloomington, and Washington University in St Louis, Al Jazeera reported.

Faculty members at several universities have expressed their support for students, including at universities in California, Georgia, and Texas.

Israel waged a genocidal war on the besieged Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian Hamas Resistance group carried out a historic operation against the occupying entity in retaliation for the regime’s intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Israel has imposed a complete siege on the densely populated territory, cutting off fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.
