In a speech on Tuesday evening, Wong backed comments by Britain's foreign minister David Cameron who has said that recognizing a Palestinian state, including at the United Nations, would make the proven failed "two-state solution" irreversible.
Wong said the international community is discussing Palestinian statehood "as a way of building momentum towards a two-state solution".
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit on Sunday called on Australia to recognize East Quds as the capital of a Palestinian state.
The call came one day after Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison formally recognized West Quds as the capital of the Israeli regime.
