Iran, Norway sign MOU on offshore seismic data processing

TEHRAN, Dec. 15 (MNA) — Iran and Norway has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to cooperate on seismic data processing in the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman, an Iranian oil official said here on Friday.

Under the MOU, Iran’s Oil Exploration Operations Company (OEOC) will carry out seismographic data processing in the said waters in cooperation with a Norwegian firm, OEOC managing director said, but declined to name the firm.

Talking with the Mehr News Agency, Hassan Mohammadi-Moqaddam added that the seismic data will be gathered from a 2500-km stretch.

Having processed the data, OEOC and its Norwegian partner will sell the results to the companies keen on working at the Persian Gulf oil blocks, he elaborated.

“OEOC has also taken part in several Indian seismic bids valued at $95 million,” the official noted, without elaborating on the outcome of the bids.

On other oversea projects by the OEOC, Mohammadi-Moqaddam said that the company has started 3D seismic operations at four Uzbek oil blocks.

Oil Exploration Operations Company won a tender set forth by Malaysian Petronas early 2006 to implement exploration and seismic surveys at four Uzbek oil blocks estimated at $30 million.

OEOC is a private joint stock company, which its activities in oil and gas exploration cover geophysical projects, geological studies, well testing and wireline, drilling and other relevant services. Prior to 1998, the company was part of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Exploration Directorate.
