Bahrain ambassador meets Rafsanjani

TEHRAN, Dec. 4 (MNA) -- Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani here on Monday called for unity of the Islamic world and promotion of security in the Middle East.

“If the Persian Gulf littoral states, Syria, Egypt, and Iran take a collective measure, they can restore security and tranquility to Iraq and Lebanon,” Rafsanjani told the Bahraini Ambassador to Tehran Kamel Saleh Al-Saleh.

Rafsanjani praised parliamentary elections in Bahrain and said the democratic process in Bahrain would benefit the entire region. “The holding of the recent elections in Bahrain shows the far-sightedness of its ruling system which is laudable.”

Iran and Bahrain enjoy religious, cultural, and historical affinities, he stated, calling for further cooperation by using the potentials of the two countries.

Saleh also called for an increased Tehran-Manama relation.

“We need cooperation to establish peace and security in the region,” the ambassador said.
